After a long day of lab work Jake got a last minute invite to a house party in west campus. He grabbed his grandfather’s cowboy hat and boots and soon met the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He noticed her phone was being used to take group pictures and promptly asked for her number so that she could send him these pictures.
Before meeting Swecha, Jake had only eaten Indian food a few times. His lack of expertise showed in his restaurant choice, G’Raj Mahal, which had a ‘westernized’ approach to Indian food to say the least. But he was still able to hold Swecha’s interest through a knowledge of film, TV, and cricket that was almost on par with her’s.
When Jake went to Swecha’s childhood home for the first time, everybody was anxious to see how the day would go. Jake did what he typically does when he is nervous: talk a little too much and too quickly, making things a little bit awkward. Seeing that he needed some help, Swecha suggested that Jake talk about movies with Narender Uncle. This seemed to break the ice, saving the rest of the day from disaster.
After a year of long walks, diners, game nights, and movies, the pair decided to visit Jake’s uncle in Portland, Oregon. While Uncle Nick’s itinerary had included a little more hiking than either of them were prepared for, the time they spent relaxing in a cabin next to the iconic haystacks and playing dance dance revolution
On this trip, Jake, Swecha, and her parents were determined to have an active vacation that celebrated the outdoors. But, they forgot that the Smoky Mountains can get quite chilly, even in the summer. This meant that there was only one jacket for the four of them to share….
This was the day that Jake saw a more devious side to Swecha. As soon as a volunteer handed out the first batch of color, Swecha wasted no time bombarding everyone in sight, strangers and friends alike. While Jake was shy at first, he quickly got into the spirit as the pair made it their mission to ensure no white clothing was safe.
This was the ultimate test—Jake’s first time meeting the entire Flower Mound crew. Knowing first impressions mattered, he wanted to look his best. In a bold move, he tried a completely new barber who didn’t speak a word of English. After horrible miscommunication, Jake was left with a haircut so catastrophic that he had no choice but to make an emergency trip to Sports Clips the day before Thanksgiving—his last hope to avoid total humiliation in front of the new crowd.
Jake wanted to show Swecha and her family the country town that raised his mom at the most exciting time of the year: the Watermelon Thump, a festival celebrating the sacred watermelon. This town-wide party has everything: watermelon eating contests, seed spitting contests, a beauty pageant crowning the ‘Thump Queen’, and even a watermelon auction with the prize melon going for thousands of dollars! After a day of celebrating and a night of games and laughing with Jake’s grandparents, Pop’s (Jake’s grandfather) couldn’t believe how much fun he had with this crew, repeatedly asking Jake when they would be able to return.
In case you’re still on the fence about these two, here are some reviews that may change your mind.
We love your little ones, but for our big day, we're keeping it kid-friendly for immediate family only. We hope you can enjoy a fun night out with us!
Our venue’s a bit cozy, so we can’t accommodate plus ones unless they’re specifically listed on your RSVP. When you RSVP, you'll see exactly who's on the guest list. Thanks for understanding!
As much as we’d love to run a full-court press, our guest list isn’t quite built for substitutions. 🏀 We’ll definitely miss you on the court, but rest assured—we’ll take a shot (or two) in your honor!"
